NO WELD DEMO RULES
The demolition derby contest is open to all men & women who have a valid driver’s license. In the interest of safety & fairness to all contestants, the following rules & regulations shall prevail:
1. All
persons in pit area MUST HAVE A PIT PASS!!!! All rules will be followed, or you
will not run.
2. Any indecent behavior, obscene gestures,
fighting, or alcoholic beverages will result in immediate disqualification and
removal of car, driver, & pit crew from event. ALL PRIZE MONEY, TROPHIES, AND ENTRY FEES WILL BE FORFEITED.
DRIVER AND PIT CREW
1 Driver must be a minimum of 16
years of age (parental consent form for 16 & 17 yr olds).
2 Driver & pit crew must attend pit meeting.
3 Driver will draw for heat number & position at pit meeting after all cars
are entered.
4 Driver must wear approved helmet (no bicycle or football helmets). Eye protection
is mandatory. No eye protection No drive!!!
5 Seatbelts
must be worn during competition at all times. Shoulder straps, neck support and
head rest are optional but encouraged.
6 Drivers or pit crew must not be under the influence of any drugs or alcohol.
7 Drivers and pit crew must sign a waiver sheet upon entry and register under
their car number
8 Beginning 2004 fire suit recommended.
CAR PREPARATION
1. American & Foreign cars and
station wagons allowed. NO limos, hearses, vans, jeeps, or trucks. NO 1974 or
older Chrysler Imperials allowed. No 1974, or older Imperial subframes, 4X4s or ambulances.
2. All glass must be removed from car. No glass in bottom of doors. Glass falling from doors results in immediate DQ and removal
from track. All moldings, trim, lights & fiberglass must
be removed prior to arrival. No loose material in car at all.
3. All doors and trunk lids must be chained, wired, or bolted. All decking in
station wagons must be removed.
4. All cars must have a number at least 24” tall & easy to read on both
doors and roof. A roof number tin is mandatory (mm. 12”Xl 5”) don’t
cut out roof. No profanity or suggestive drawings or pictures. Drivers name is
optional, but encouraged.
5. Original fuel tank
must be removed. Fuel tank must be mounted rear to the driver & securely
fastened (Must not move
when shaken). 5 gallons fuel maximum allowed. No
plastic tanks of any kind. No leaks. Keep fuel lines away from exhaust. Any
spillage of fuel during event will result in immediate removal from track.
Electric fuel pumps may be used, but must be hooked up to ignition switch. (When switch is off, pump is off).
6. External tranny coolers will be allowed, but must
be mounted in a safe manner inside the vehicle and properly plumbed. No rubber hose. Steel or steel braid hose only.
7. Battery(s) must be securely mounted inside of car & properly covered.
8. Electric switches must be uniform. UP or FORWARD is ON, DOWN or BACK is OFF.
9. All cars must have working brakes.
10. Maximum of 6 hood bolts allowed
(all others must be removed) — must
not exceed over 4 inches above hood and cannot be attached to frame. Hood bolts
must be connected to fender, firewall or radiator support ;
hood pins connected to body mounts will be removed . No additional iron in corners. Hood bolts %“ diameter maximum. Hood
plates must not exceed 5”X5” or
5” diameter — 3/8” maximum thickness. At least 1 bar, must be installed in windshield opening to prevent hood
from coming into drivers compartment. (See also rule 27)
11. Two holes no smaller than 12” square or 12” diameter must be
cut in hood over manifold area to allow access with a fire extinguisher in case
of a fire.
12. Fenders may be bolted to inner fenders, maximum of 4 bolts per foot: 2 rows
per fender, 3/8 diameter Grad 2 bolt maximum. Bolts must be trimmed flush with
heads of nuts. NO “tucking and rolling” offenders allowed.
13. For drivers protection you may weld one
bar horizontally above the steering column; one bar behind scat doorpost to doorpost; you may connect the dashbar to the bar behind the seat across the inside of the
front doors only; this is for driver protection not frame reinforcement. DO NOT
attach to frame or motor. A 6”X1/4” plate is recommended on each end of driver
protection bars. Steering column may also be welded. Drivers door MUST be reinforced,
may be internal or external but may not extend more than 6” past front or rear
seams of door. Driver protection must be bolted or welded to car. Solid material of some type may be
used on inside of driver doors — NO
GRAVEL, SAND, OR ROCK; NO GRADER BLADES OR COMBINE RASP BARS ON OUTSIDE OF DOOR
(3/8”X6” flat steel recommended instead of channel iron). Welding of door seam
only will not be sufficient.
14. From trunk lid to rear bumper — maximum,
2 loops #9 wire allowed in 2 locations. Two bolts from
trunk lid to trunk floor allowed 3/4’ diameter maximum allowed. Washers can be
no larger than 5” diameter —4
points with wire or 2 bolts maximum. Bolts or wire cannot be connected to
frame. Trunk lid seam may be bolted with a total of 3 — 3/8” grade 2 bolts per location in 4 evenly spaced locations.
Wire may be put in window openings (3 locations per window; 2 loops maximum).
15. Any automotive bumper and
bumper brackets may be used. Bumpers must be stock with NO aftermarket or homemade bumper allowed. Bumper and bumper brackets may not
exceed OEM. No connecting the frame rails to each other with added materials.
Bumper mounting brackets may not tie frame rails together. No welding on
bumpers or attaching hardware allowed. NO homemade 5 mph cushions.
16. Radiator must remain in stock position or be removed but not relocated. No
auxiliary radiators or water tanks. Fan may be removed, but not relocated.
Radiators may be strapped or wired in 2 locations. NO reinforcement of radiator
support.
17. A arms & ball joints must remain stock.
18. Use of motor or tranny of choice without major
frame or firewall modifications, motor must remain in stock position. You may
chain or weld motor & tranny to keep them in
place (DON’T REINFORCE THE FRAME).
19. Firewalls may be hammered back to allow distributor clearance. All holes in
firewall must be covered.
20. Front & rear bumper height must not be excessive. THIS WILL BE JUDGES
DISCRETION. Suspension must function properly. Torsion bars cannot be cranked
all the way up. Leaf springs may have only 6 clamps —2 being the U bolts. Leafs may not be welded together. Clamps can be
homemade or factory. Homemade clamps cannot exceed 2”X4”X1/4” — 3/8” bolts maximum (clamps must be
separate) 2 bolts or 1 U-bolt per clamp. You may bolt or wire coil springs to rear
end & frame to prevent them from falling out. You may chain or wire rear
end to frame in 2 locations — 1/4”
chain maximum. Suspension must still function.
21. Rear end of choice, must be 5 lug, no hybrid or modified
housings. You may tilt rear end if desired. Welded, posi,
or mini spool is OK.
22. No split rims, LT tires permitted. Tires in tires OK — but must not exceed 15” rim. Tubes may be used. No screws
from wheel to tire. No paddles on wheels, no bead rings or reinforcing of
wheels. Valve stem protectors are OK. Tread design must be straight tread, mud
or snow, radial, or aqua tread. NO MILITARY, SKIDLOADER, OR TRACTOR LUG DESIGN
TREAD TIRES. Tires must be comparable to OEM. 15” maximum tire size.
23. Rubber body mount cushions may be removed. Mounts have to be replaced with
steel or washers, but must be the same thickness and same diameter as removed
uncompressed mount (minimum of 1 1/2” clearance between body & frame).
Washer may not extend over V2 “ beyond frame
width — %“diameter bolt maximum.
24. Each crew must have a CO2 fire extinguisher in their respective pit area.
25. NO ANTI-FREEZE; water or
sierra anti-freeze only. MUST HAVE PROOF FOR SIERRA ANTI-FREEZE.
26. Must have some type of air cleaner on carburetor.
27. One hood only per car. Hood must cover carburetor and radiator. No 2 piece
hoods; hood must be removable.
28. Radiator overflow hoses must not be pointed forward.
29. You may run wire frame rail to frame rail underneath rear of car behind
rear end.
2 loops #9 wire max or ¼” cable max.
30. Car body must retain original appearance
31. No frame or fender patching unless bolted. No welded patches of
any kind.
32. Rear quarters and fenders
must retain original appearance. NO WEDGES.
33. No wires around frame from car body.
GENERAL RULES
1.
Do
not hit the drivers door !!!! We realize this sometimes happens; but if it
looks intentional or carelessness —
YOU WILL BE DISQUALIFIED!!!!
This also holds true if you use your drivers door as a
shield.
2. No sand bagging or holding!!!! You will be disqualified.
3. Any questions just call. Just because it doesn’t say you can’t do it , you
had better call first — it may save you a lot of work!!
4. There is a $200 cash protest fee. This must be done by a driver only. This
does not cover the whole car — one area of the car only. THIS WILL BE
COVERED AT THE PIT MEETING.
5. Judges decisions are final. NO EXCEPTIONS
6. All cars must be hauled or towed to the exhibition ground. THEY MUST NOT BE
DRIVEN ON PUBLIC ROADWAYS. This means after the event is over also.
7. Cars must be at the track area at least 2 hrs before event start; must pass
inspection V2 hr before event starts. Inspections start at least 3 hrs prior to
even.
